FINISHING

Foiled folders

Real metallic finish that catches the light, sits slightly proud of the surface, and does the job printed silver ink can't.

Foiling presses a thin metallic film onto your folder using heat and pressure — the same technique used on premium book covers, luxury packaging, and high-end business cards. Available across our stock palette and combinable with lamination, spot UV and embossing.

01

What is foiling?

Foiling presses a thin metallic film onto your folder using heat and pressure, leaving a sharp, reflective finish on the areas you specify — typically a logo, a title, or a border. It's the same technique used on premium book covers, luxury packaging, and high-end business cards.

Unlike printed metallic inks, real foil reflects light properly. That difference is what makes it stand out across a meeting room table or in a prospect's hand.

02

Why foil a presentation folder?

A presentation folder is often the first physical thing a client receives from you. Foiling does three things printed ink can't.

Catches light

A foiled logo flashes when the folder moves, drawing the eye before the reader has registered anything else on the cover.

Adds texture

The foil sits slightly proud of the surface, giving a tactile cue the moment the folder is picked up.

Holds focus

Foiling lets you direct attention to one element — a logo, a tagline, an event name — without competing with the rest of the design.

How to supply artwork for foiling

The foil layer needs to be supplied separately from the printed artwork. Vector only — no rasterised foil layers.

LAYER NAMING

Place the foil area on a separate spot-colour layer named Foil, set to overprint and 100% solid. No gradients, tints or transparency on the foil layer.

FILE FORMAT
PDF / AI

Vector only — no rasterised foil layers.

MIN ELEMENT SIZE
0.5pt / 6pt text

Finer won't hold cleanly under foil.

FOIL LAYER FILL
100% solid

Spot colour — no gradients, tints or transparency.

Avoid fine serifs, hairline rules, and placing foil directly over fold lines. Our studio flags any of these during artwork checks before tooling is cut.

Not sure how to set up a foil layer? Send your artwork as-is and our studio will prepare it for you. There's a small setup fee for this, quoted before any work begins.

New to print-ready artwork? Our full artwork-supply guide covers bleed, file formats, fonts, colour and the pre-submit checklist.
