Cookie policy

Last updated: 9 July 2026

This page explains what cookies are, which ones we use on this website, and how you can manage them. Read it alongside our privacy policy for the full picture of how we handle information about you online.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember things about you — for example, what's in your basket, whether you're signed in, or which pages you've viewed. Most websites use cookies in some form, and they're a standard part of how the modern web works.

Cookies set by this website are called "first-party" cookies. Cookies set by other services we use — for example, an analytics provider — are called "third-party" cookies.

How we use cookies

We group the cookies on this site into four categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — required for the website to function. Without them, features like the basket, checkout and account sign-in won't work. These cannot be switched off.
  • Functional cookies — remember choices you make (such as your saved address or recently viewed products) so the site behaves the way you expect on return visits.
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site (which pages are popular, where people get stuck) so we can improve it. The data is aggregated and not used to identify you personally.
  • Marketing cookies — set by third parties (for example, when you arrive from an ad) and used to measure campaign performance or show relevant content elsewhere on the web.

Cookies we set

These are the strictly necessary first-party cookies our website sets. They power the basket, checkout and account areas — without them, the site won't work as expected.

Cookie name Purpose Expires
wp_woocommerce_session_* Stores a unique identifier for each visitor so the basket contents persist across pages. Required for any add-to-basket action to work. When you close your browser, or 48 hours, whichever is shorter.
woocommerce_cart_hash Helps WooCommerce detect when the basket contents change so the header basket count and other UI elements stay up to date. Session — cleared when you close your browser.
woocommerce_items_in_cart Tracks whether the basket has items so the site can show or hide the empty-basket message. Session — cleared when you close your browser.
wordpress_logged_in_* Only set if you create an account or sign in. Keeps you logged in to your account between visits. Until you log out or 48 hours of inactivity.
wp-settings-* Stores your preferences within the account area (e.g. layout choices in My Account). One year from the date set.

Analytics cookies (third-party)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors arrive at and use the site — which pages are popular, where people get stuck, how long they stay. The data we see is aggregated and anonymous; it doesn't identify individual visitors to us. Google itself processes the data on our behalf as a data processor.

Google Analytics sets the following cookies:

Cookie name Purpose Expires
_ga Set by Google Analytics. Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a random ID so we can see how many people visit the site and how often they return. The data is aggregated — it doesn't identify you personally to us. 2 years from your last visit.
_ga_<container-id> Set by Google Analytics 4. Persists session state so analytics can tell a single browsing session apart from a return visit later. The container-id portion is the site's GA4 measurement ID. 2 years from your last visit.

For full detail on how Google handles this data, see Google's privacy & terms and their Analytics-specific privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Other tools we use that don't set cookies

For transparency, we also use a couple of tools that operate without setting cookies on your device:

  • Google Search Console — a webmaster tool that lets us see how the site appears in Google's search results. It operates entirely on Google's side and Googlebot's crawls; it doesn't set cookies in your browser or track you as a visitor.
  • Independent Analytics — a WordPress plugin we use alongside Google Analytics for cross-checking site stats. Per its documentation, it uses cookieless tracking — no cookies are set, and the data is stored only in our own database. It doesn't communicate with any external server.

Managing your cookie preferences

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Each browser handles this slightly differently — the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all include step-by-step instructions for managing cookies, viewing what's stored, and clearing them.

Please bear in mind that strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled without affecting how the site works. If you block them, you won't be able to add items to a basket, complete a purchase, or sign in to your account.

For general information about cookies and how to manage them, you may find aboutcookies.org or allaboutcookies.org helpful — both are independent guides not run by us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, when the cookies we use change, or when the law evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page whenever we make a meaningful change. Please check back periodically.
